Looks to me that they are putting much of their
efforts into $UNITS. waves and tokens will be natively supported in units? Not sure if i really understand the direction and the upsides to what they are wanting to do with units.

Units will be EVM, which means all EVM SCs can be ported. Units is a blockchain of blockchains, which means anybody could launch a blockchain on top of Units Network. Both things will be big for Waves. It can be hard to grasp, without seeing it. Waves has been working on it for a year, there is a lot of accumulated value in that. Some token projects on Waves have been crap, but I do know Waves can build a good blockchain. (best L1 imo)
