If I want to change Validator, is the balance of my INJ gonna be on hold for some period of time, or will go immediataly with no dealy of making profits?

What happened with balance in fx wallet. For some period of time my fx balance worth several thousand of USD disappeared. Was zero. Are the funds safe?
