else? What are the important things to know for the process of taking over a holoport?

If you already have a Holoport (because of your message in holotroopers), then you should go to the holo forum. This is the place where you get help to register and get it running.

Holoports have a feature when you login reset to factory default, so I assume its much easier now

If you don't get to a scammer (like sending the money and don't get anything), I think there is nothing you have to look for. If you get the port, you should be able to contact someone from holo to register it to your name and email address.
