Maybe some day, but right now it is tied to Bitcoin prices and will drop with it as soon as people lose some faith in it. I'd like to buy it and not worry about the price. I don't care if it never goes up, I just don't want it to go down.

i feel this way too. often xmr community will say price doesnt matter, but if I'm abandoning fiat for monero, I dont want my purchasing power to go down but I'm hopeful these recent events + the need for monero will eventually decouple the price

I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's just too hard to know how much the price is inflated by speculation. Price very well may matter if it takes 30 years to return to its old speculation price after a major correction.
