What are the points used for in this chat?

I've gathered that the XP is given as a reward for reporting chat rule breakers, but I'm perplexed as to what the points are for. I currently don't see any info in regards to the XP. To be fair, I'm mostly trying to learn all I can so that I can better serve the .us community 😆
