Again, this brings us back to the question of

WHO are you trying to be secure FROM?

If you're trying to protect your privacy/security from the NSA...... Basically, just give up. If you have the slightest clue of how to do that.... you don't need me.

Luckily, the NSA has not been in the business of stealing people's crypto.... as far as we know.

In this context..... securing your crypto from thieves.... we are not very worried about the NSA, China, etc... The battle was lost a long time ago. We only need to protect it from hacker thieves.

So basically hardware wallets are as secure as phone wallets because the main question is « secure from? » And if you are talking about malicious software provided by MIM attack, technically it’s no difference if you update software if your phone wallet or of your hw wallet. So I’d say there I no secure wallet at all except if in order to sign a transaction you’re using pure good old code from GitHub that you have audited by yourself and installed on a device that was never connected to the internet. And then you broadcast signed transaction from an Internet cafe.
