coinbase didn't implement Hedera account IDs (0.0.xxxx addresses) on the deposit page. Instead what they did was display a freshly generated public key for users to send hbar to when they wanted to deposit onto Coinbase. There's 2 main problems with this: 1. While in theory you can, most wallets don't support sending to a public key, so most users wouldn't be able to deposit 2. You'd be charged a $0.05 Hedera account create fee when you deposit, to create a Hedera account for Coinbase
