burn tokens if I use @MrStahlfelge's cold wallet. Same security. Everyone has an old phone or can buy one off eBay cheaper than ledger. So...why?
The 10 tokens limit is on the nano s only because it has limited memory. Nano s plus and nano x shouldn't have those issues. Also, the 10 tokens limit is 10 tokens received in 1 (one) transaction (box). As long as they are sent in bulks of less than 10 you're safe. (again the issue is nano s only). Furthermore, IF you accidently received more than 10 tokens in a box/transaction you could still retrieve them by entering the ledger seed in a nautilus (or a compatible wallet). Of course, that would mean using your ledger seed on a hot wallet which means you'd likely have to create a new ledger seed. Point is, you will never lose 90% of your tokens. I have used ledger since may and it works great 95% of the time. There's one issue where I can't unstake ergopad (it might have been fixed now, i submitted debug info to the cpt). The second issue, and this is a big one, it doesn't show the recipient address on the ledger display, that's something i'd like to see and i think that's one of the issues the features they've been told to implement by ledger. It's hard to work with the small amount of ram in the Nano S, especially for utxo. If only they could make it for s+ and x...I think ledger has some sort of policy that all apps must support all ledgers.
<digdug (H. Badger)> Correct me if im wrong but I believe Ledger uses a proprietary derivation pathway for generating their master priv. keys from the ledger seed phrase. ie: You cant type in your ledger seed phrase on a Cardano wallet like Yoroi or eventually an Ergo wallet like Nautilus to recover your ledger wallets.
They were working to correct this issue haven't checked if it's been resolved
<digdug (H. Badger)> How would they correct it? Changing the derivation pathway they use would change the wallets currently generated on Ledger devices
https://github.com/trezor/trezor-firmware/issues/1783 I believe it's this issue
See, this is precisely why I object to Ledger. Weird token limits on some versions, may not be able to recover in a standard wallet, etc. What other thing don't I know about. At least with @MrStahlfelge, Capt. Nemo's and other standard ecosystem wallets, I don't have to worry about all the problems I don't know about. First I'm hearing about a seed that only works on Ledger. Will Ledger be around 20 years from now?
I think it will. LOL. https://decrypt.co/114687/crypto-cold-wallets-in-ledger-trezor-sales-moon-after-ftx-collapse?amp=1
