I think it is because the lockers already enjoyed 2-3 digit APYs for months when it first launched and likely made back a significant portion of their principal if not all of it so unless the stakers want to return all the FXS they earned, it can be argued it is completely unfair to unlock them with all the upside with 0 downside to locks they agreed to and executed the transaction themselves. The locks provide actual utility to the Frax Protocol. It would be too convenient if everyone could have their cake and eat it too. Enjoy 3 digit APRs at the very beginning and then when APRs do go down a lot or the project goes dormant, they can keep the profits and take all their liquidity.
Sam, the key point here is not to unlock to eat free lunch, but to keep funds safe. It’s a fair game to get close to 0 APR due to whatever changes, but not fair to knowingly risk the entire principle
