It does throw up errors, yes. I can attest to that. You can pair TRONLink with a cold wallet like Trezor or Ledger and conduct (most) txs through those. I know that Ledger supports TRC20 USDT txs without added fees (other than consuming energy and bandwidth to process the tx on the blockchain).

Tronlink app is just an interface as any other wallet but this is probably the most complete TRON wallet and allow to do things that others don't . If you got any error you will get the same using other app because the problem is not the app but the blockchain transaction.
