A clue is usually part of a set of things that leads to an unknown solution, like solving a mystery or modeling a phenomenon. A hint is a pointer towards a well known solution, like filling in a spot in a crossword puzzle or the contents of a wrapped gift.
Basically, they're synonyms

My mother tongue is Spanish. For me, both have the same meaning. Not sure if there is a subtle difference.
