The whole reason for L2s is to lower fees. The fees aren't the same as Ethereum L1 transactions.

And where is that ETH originating from? That is why the gas is high. Once you have it on the L2 you can do your transactions much cheaper. Don't blame the L2 for the fee when you are starting the transaction from a L1.

I've not looked to see what it costs, but I've have good luck using Orbiter when I was checking out zksync. It was pretty cheap to bridge
