the fast and cheap payments, how it’s platform helping with that?
I am most excited about what it can do for user-friendlyness. Cryptocurrency addresses are not appealing, we need to have usernames
Usernames to do what?
We want the same user experience as in the best conventional payment apps
So Revolut did it in no time, but we can’t implement it in years. See why most users are fed up?
Hmm, Dash would be the first to offer that kind of user experience in crypto
There are other username systems, but they all suck
I mean I hope Dash it’s first as you never know if tomorrow another project want come out of it before Dash. We just have to hope no one it’s doing it too.
What is the purpose of usernames in Dash? Why does the Dash need this feature?
Cryptocurrency should be not just fast and low-cost, but as easy to use as the best payments apps out there
How will usernames improve ease of use in Dash? Can you give an example?
It’s easier to give a user name to someone than an address, also people like vanity and I am sure just like user names or addresses in other platforms we may see people go nuts in acquiring user names.
That on its own it’s not the killer shot, you need adoption and people really building on the platform and possibly develops the next big thing.
I am sure people don't need that. Do you think people don't use Dash now because Dash don't have usernames?
Dash transactions work fine without it, but if we want to bring cryptocurrency to new groups of people I truly do think we absolutely need usernames
usernames doesn't help to bring crypto to new groups of people. People has usernames in PayPal, Circle and revolut. If you say: hey people - we have usernames, stop using your paypal, and start use Dash, people don't go.
Yeah, I agree, lack of usernames is not the only barrier - but it is one, and removing that barrier is a great step
when someone install new wallet anyway he will start from normal addresses
Why? The first step could be to create a username or blockchain identity
why no one merchant and exchange not add amazing Dash InstantSend ?
you can't create name without fee, for receive dash you have normal address
Have you used Dash, or any crypto? Or Telegram? Imagine sending to "Xs7do8ayf98hew98jfd0js90fdjw09ew" instead of @TheDesertLynx. And imagine recovering your funds after your phone gets dropped in the toilet and all your contacts are gone
I use Dash for regular payments and money transfers for 3 years. I don't feel that I need usernames. if I pay at bitrefill I scan QR code or click Open wallet. If I pay to my partners or friends I ask QR or address too.
I get what what you're saying, but usernames are not primarily aimed at people like you and me who are already using cryptocurrency for years. It's aimed at new comers who may find crypto intimidating and too difficult. Computer users before the graphical interface may not have felt a need for that, but it made a huge difference in making computers usable for average folks
It is much more difficult for ordinary people to understand the advantage of cryptocurrency compared to PayPal and Visa than to understand addresses. I taught hundreds of ordinary people how to use a Dash wallet, no one ever had a problem with addresses and transferring funds, but many still did not understand why cryptocurrency is needed if they already have a bank account.
The Dash community spends money and time creating usernames, although there are other more pressing tasks and problems.
Understanding why cryptocurrency is needed at all is of course a lot more fundamental, but that is a whole different topic
How do we adress that issue then?
Yeah, but we've gotten used to it. It's clunky. Where do you send addresses to friends? Surely with a messenger, which then has to be secure. And copy/pasting is clunky, and you have to make sure you have the right address and that you didn't copy most of it or paste a new address. It requires a lot of off-blockchain communication. Whereas if I have all my friends and regular business colleagues I can just look at them on my contact list and pay them. Significant improvement
Absolutely not, for two big reasons. First, as I mentioned, they're a very valuable usability improvement, but second, it represents that Dash can fulfill its development promises. NEVER delivering Evo is simply not an option
Sending a payment to your contact list is not a good idea. The recipient's wallet may change and the funds will be lost. It is much better to ask a fresh address from the user before sending.
I'm sorry. Do you literally not understand the Evolution username setup at all?
I understand. User can create username and use it like xpub key.
Sending funds to the same contact multiple times, the recipient receives the funds in a new address each time. That's great for privacy. You will not be able to use the username to look up tr
