Dumb question, to make a remotely accessible node, do you

need to make a VPS and use a hosting service? Or can I just use a spare PC on my home network somehow?

Sure, but you'll need a static IP address. I would still recommend using VPS services because they have more stable internet connections, and many providers offer better control over bandwidth.

You can hoste a tor hidden service from a spare pc you have, preferably use ssd hard drive. It’s easy 1 click solutions out there…

be sure its legal

This node is runs on tor network, future updates will have options for clear net also. It’s a selfhost os, mainly for btc and lightning network. But can host monero node also.

Pretty sure you can do it on your home network with a Tor address and without port forwarding
