it already usable with Monero GUI or other wallets and how? Only by selecting Trezor Safe 3 ?
Please respond by mentioning me, Im forgetfull xD
Probably best to try trezor support. From what I can see it's not explicitly supporting monero.
finding a contact to trezor is not that easy 😅 but yes
Looks like safe 5 does support monero. https://trezor.io/coins
it does and i know this. but look closer: it says only by external wallets. the monero gui is meant by this. at the moment, i can select only trezor safe 3, not 5, if i chose to create a hardwarewallet. my question goes so to the people who has a TS5 and can test and verify, that i already can us TS5 by selecting TS3. just for clarification.
Yep I understand, trying to help despite not having a safe 5. Have you tried safe 3 setup already?
yes, and that works great! 😊
LOL sounds like you were already sorted then. 😂 Cheers 🍻
neee, i want to know it for sure for the trezor safe 5😅
I'd say if it works, it'll continue to work 👍🏻
I have ledger and it works with monero gui You should own a ledger it's easy to use
Ledger is closed source
Ledger goes in my opinion a wrong way. so i mostly support trezor or keystone
Hardware is good, use it with Electrum wallet for BTC, and you should have a equivalent with Monero wallets. The native app is a spy ware.
Hardware can be as good as you want, as long as it's closed source, you are at risk.
is there a benefit for hardware wallets over storing the seed on a paper for example ?
The main benefit is airgapping. The seed never goes onto an internet connected device, so can't be hacked remotely. It doesn't change the need to backup your seed phrases (on paper or steel for example).
what native app are you talking about that is spyware?
he"s referring to the ledger app
it has to go over the internet to access your account on the bl ok ckchain, unless you have a wallet that downloaded the 3ntire blockchain
what? are you saying the seed go over the internet?
ok im not an expert i dont know exactly how it works, but to access the blockchain youd have to open a wallet on your device that connects to the internet as far as i can see. maybe could open your wallet while offline which requires seed, then go online so that way seed is never entered on live internet? but then youd still have your wallet live on internet which i guess theoretically could be hacked even if hacker couldnt get your seed?
The thing that gets sent is the signing of the transaction with the spend key. On a hot wallet, the signing happens on the device and the spend key is held on that device. With a hardware wallet the signing happens on the offline device, which then sends it to the wallet, to onsend to the blockchain.
When using a hardware wallet the wallet you see on the computer is read only, no spend key.
of course there are also things like keyloggers that potentially could read and record your keys without having to be online, and send them to hacker when you do go online.
however I have a doubt about monero, since a watch only wallet only sees the receiving tx and not the spending ones, how do they handle it?
ok found it: by importing the accompanying key images of each output of the wallet

LOL at the same time
ledger live app to communicate withthe HW wallet. Why because when you order the wallet, you let an Email, a direction, an IP and so on. So you are traced if you want the genuine wallet on website.
You can send key images of the spends from offline wallet to online view wallet then it can see everything.
Yeah i should've read more backlog before responding probably
