I just watched the Dave hooper presentation. He's talking about

components being released later this year and giving a sneak preview of scan component. This confused me because i thought those components were already released as a part of the SDK. Aren't those components critical to the functionality of payments?

@FlexaHQ Scan is a free tool wallets can use to integrate into their apps. The QR code as @davehoover mentioned, is not high on developers list of priorities (not revenue generating). Flexa solved their own issue of having bad QR scanning tools (bad for user experience) by developong and giving away a free kit that wallets can use at no cost to them. And they tied it into WalletConnects quality control announcement of requiring Flexas scan tool being required.
