Just watching the video on how to stake. What's the

deal with it telling you to download your private key? Isn't that what you aren't supposed to do?

You’d need to store your private key pem file on a pen drive, so you can restore if you have any problem

Yeah but from what I have been told you are never supposed to download your private keys onto your computer

I agree. Bad wallet functionality.. both confusing and unsafe

Arweave if i'm not mistaken does this too.

You’re not actually “downloading” them. They are generated in your wallet locally, so they already exist on your computer. Much like any desktop or mobile wallet that can generate keys. You’re never supposed to transmit them over the internet. In this case, the “download” functionality equates to being able to save them to a secure/encrypted device.

Ah k thanks for the explanation!

Regardless it’s still confusing and it’s not working for me.. I’ll put a file in there and then get an error. So, first account already lost and I’m in crypto for 5 years. If I lose that then new people definitely will. Needs a better wallet ASAP like Phantom or Metamask
