Anyone encounter a case of blocks remaining increasing instead of

counting down?

Mine went from 486 to 555 to 589 and now 649 blocks remaining while trying to sync to blockchain.

This is based on peer gossip, which only updates periodically. So the blocks reamining may go back and forth depending on the latest observed status

idk if it's possible for different miners, but i have multiple sensecap miners & there's this website sensecapmx where you get a dashboard that shows really accurate syncing info. also, as much as it's a pain in the ass, it's just waiting, almost always it will be ok, needs time
