was confronted with the fees. Now, should I mess around with the settings of the fees or should I not touch them. If yes, what are realistic settings? If not, should I just set them to slow and have patience?

G*as is typically cheapest at the weekends, early-hours PST. Which is more or less now-ish. I'm watching the changes of g*as now and it's pretty volatile: lowest I've noticed in the last few minutes was 80-something GWEI. It's unlikely to get much lower than this. If your stake is for a 'good amount' of HEX, it might be a good idea to just bite the bullet and go with it. You could *try* to specify a lower g*as limit, and that might work, but you might run the risk of the transaction failing... but taking the g*as payment anyway. It's a bit of a lottery.

DOUBLE the GA.S LIMIT. Set the gwe.i to a two week low. 75 should be good. Start the end stake and wait for it to finish in 2 weeks. The quoted price will be 2x higher than actual cost because you doubled the ga.s limit.
