9ther ethereum l2 solutions such as polygon and other things ?
SKALE is a multichain ("multiple blockchain") network like Cosmos and Polkadot. This means that each dApp can be on its own Ethereun-native blockchain, instead of all the dApps sharing just a single chain like in other L2 solutions. SKALE is currently the only mature network of this kind deployed natively on Ethereum. You can see the value of this approach by the simple fact that MATIC rebranded to Polygon specifically for the purpose of also trying to be a multichain on Ethereum. But in this regard, they've only just pivot in pursuit of building a kind of network that SKALE already has live.
Thanks for the explanation Mark, really appreciate it
It's my pleasure :) Please don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions.
The analogy is between Web2 servers and Web3 chains that apps use for computation, storage, etc. Current Web2 cloud services = provides any number of servers to apps SKALE as the Web3 cloud service on Ethereum = provides any number of Ethereum-native blockchains to dApps SKALE will bring Ethereum to a billion-plus people by providing a provisioning system so that each Ethereum dApp can be on its own fully Ethereum-integrated blockchain. Imagine if you're writing an email on Gmail and suddenly it becomes too slow and too expensive to use because there are lots of activity going on on Facebook. That would lead to a very bad user experience. It doesn't happen on Web2 because Google has its own server and Facebook has its own server. So similarly, the current system of having thousands of dApps share a single blockchain is untenable for supporting Web3. That's why SKALE offers each application and website its own blockchain (or they can even go multi-chain, as needed) for its storage, computation and other needs. This way, the SKALE Network serves as a decentralized cloud to power Web3. Because we all know that the centralized cloud providers of today, by their very nature, can't be the ones supporting the decentralized web of tomorrow. SKALE is looking forward to having the decentralized Uber, decentralized Facebook, and decentralized Google on its blockchains.
I have a weird question. If skale is focused on providing the infrastructure for web3, I am just wondering if we can assume internet computer as a competitor for scale? To the nest of my knowledge they are also into web3 space and are trying to offer decentralized cloud service options available to Users? So is it safe to assume that skale focuses on providing scalable web 3 infrastructure services dapps only on ethereum native system ? Or will this be expanded to other blockchains too ?
