having a hard time finding info on exactly what it does. Should I remove my MM from everywhere except the Trezor for it to work the most effectively?

Go read the above recommended site but to put it simply when you have your tokens just in Metamask your private keys are stored in your browser (not so good). Once you get a Trezor you can import your Metamask wallet (12 seed words) into your Trezor (in effect moving your keys/wallet to the Trezor). Then you can set up a new Metamask using the ‘add a hardware wallet’ function that just works as a front end for your Trezor (keys are on the Trezor, not in your browser). It’s important though that you then delete any trace of the original browser wallet. You could uninstall then reinstall the browser but many people go as far as reinstalling their OS. Very very important before you do any of this though that you have your Metamask seed words correctly written down and verified.
Great explanation. Thank you. Words are stored in a safe 👍🏼 are you saying that I would have 2 MM wallets? Will they be “synced” or will my current staked hex be on the first one and then all new transactions on my new one? Does this require 2 sets of seed words
No. When you import your Metamask seed words into the Trezor you are just moving the wallet to a different device. Both Metamask and Trezor (or Ledger for that matter) are BIP39 compliant meaning you can import seed words (wallets) between them. Once you have the Trezor set up with your Metamask 12 word seed you have effectively moved all your Eth, liquid and staked Hex to the Trezor (same Eth private key, same Eth public address). For that matter, any ERC tokens you have under that address. You then just need to make sure there is no trace of that wallet stored on your PC. Temporarily you could for example use a different browser to set up a new MetaMask and then connect the Trezor to make sure it works. So if your MetaMask is currently set up in chrome, import your keys into your Trezor then for example set up Firefox with a new MetaMask and add a hardware wallet (your Trezor). At this point you would have the same wallet in chrome (with the keys stored in the browser) but also you would have the same wallet viewable in Firefox but with the keys stored on your Trezor. Once you have verified the Firefox installation works with your Trezor you can then uninstall chrome to make sure that the private keys (or seed words) have been deleted). However, as I said previously, how can you be sure that the chrome encrypted data store has actually been deleted? A lot of people simply wipe their PCs and reinstall the operating system, just to make sure.
