Yes, I know the price has dropped, which affects the APY. But my point was more about that Kava are trying to encourage early stakers with the 4-digit APY, but they are never going to be able to get that as the pool size will already be pretty large by the time the surge period starts.
I agree you will not get that 1700% APY, which is probably why later tweets, etc were mentioning 500% APY To some degree the high potential yields already attracted a lot of interest hence the rewards already dropping. I guess it is impossible to know the yield in advance without knowing how much will be supplied on launch The medium article does give various yields at differnt supply totals
You can boost your on yield by borrowing against that supplied ATOM and resupplying
