eth2.0 isnt a upgrade. its a fork. like pulsechain. its a fork of eth too
It wont copy the system state like what pulsechain will. Plus eth2.0 won't be out for years
from a few things i have read it does say it will be a mirror image. rh in a live stream (cant remember which on now) also suggested it. thats what got me looking into eth2.0 to start with

its a hard fork. In a hard fork, holders of tokens in the original blockchain are granted tokens in the new fork as well, but miners must choose which blockchain to continue verifying.
with updates you don't get a hard fork alot of times, so no splitting eth chain in 2 and getting twice the hex. Most likely eth will end up just updating smoothly
when saying hard fork it implies 2 chains will exist like eth and eth cl
