My hypothesis is that most of those who continue to spend Bitcoin on goods and services are longtime hodlers who have made such huge gains that they simply do not care about high network fees, they can afford to remain loyal to the coin that has given them so much. And since they are probably spending only on luxury items rather than necessities, the long confirmation times is not a problem for them, and sadly they don't seem to care much about privacy either. However, when new groups of people are coming into crypto for the first time, they are going to be looking for something like Dash with low fees, fast transactions, and added privacy.
