structure ? Over the last 2 years Iv managed to get my hands on 5 boxes and installed with external antenna etc, so pretty much as could as I could install them given the locations I managed to scrape together. Currently making 1ht give of take between all 5 boxes.. not great, given Iv got some yield farms that piss all over this for the same monetary investment( without the farse of acquiring and installing the hardware) , my question is ? Are the rewards due to just keep diminishing ? Or will my setup end up being more fruitful in the future when the HNT network is actually providing some
Sort of service ??
The intent of the network is transferring data. The max cap for data distribution is around 35%. Right now 90+% of your earnings are from Proof of Coverage and <10% are from data. You can beat yourself up about PoC earnings degrading but understand that data is king and PoC has a planned diminished return with time. The PoC earnings will continue to decrease as the network expands by nature of the algorithms and increase in hotspots onboarded. Data by design will continue to increase as the network is utilized. So the best thing you can prospect upon towards improving your earnings is to ensure your neighbors use data in places like an event stadium, shipping warehouses, rail yards, airports. Chasing PoC earnings is not the way.
Thanks for that 👍, obvs they’re set up now , and I’m gonna leave them, just can’t help but feel Iv missed the boat on this one a bit , but who knows what future rewards structures will bring 🤷🏻♂️
The way I look at it is that everyone involved at this point with the helium is essentially an early adopter and most of the pains we feel were anticipated in the whitepaper. There is an extra level of frustration because it is growing very fast but these are all good problems to have. Seriously you've already sunken the cost into a hotspot the operation costs negligible at $0.12 kWH and the 5W hotspot pulls 3.6kW/month which is $0.43/month.
The whitepaper is quite old, but available at: http://whitepaper.helium.com. Please see https://developer.helium.com for the most up to date docs
