I don't want to ask this in the MWEB testing

room because they're busy, but, if no one can see your balance on MWEB, how can you see your own balance? It seems to me that you'd only be able to see your own balance by plugging in your private key and checking. But how do you do that without constantly exposing your private key?

It’s the public key that gets balances I think. Private key is for signing the transactions that you broadcast. You can derive public keys from private keys.

But then if you knew the public address you'd know the balance, which is how it already works, no? :S

I think you can only see what’s on your mweb address with your public key, while for regular chain, you don’t need the public key to view balance of an address. Anyone, please correct me f I’m wrong

I think it is wrong. Checking an address without the public key is like checking a bank account with no account number. The public key *is* how you check.

You can check balance of any regular address without a key. All you need is the address.

I don't think you can call logging in to your bank, as exposing your private keys. Isn't this what we are suposingly fixing? You shouldnt know what someone has and where they get it.
