Hello Quick question: At a concept level, we know what CL does. So

apart from servicing smart contracts, can we say that essentially the job of Oracles is to essentially feed all / any data to the Web 3.0 ecosystem?

There are some blockchains that have limited smart contract capability, but as far as I know most if not all use smart contracts to varying degrees.

Sorry if I'm being dense. I think what I'm trying to understand is, would Chainlink itself not have utility outside smart contracts? In other words, if for some bizarre reason smart contracts fail at adoption, would that render CL redundant?

Yes If, theoretically, eth/Ada/bsc + every other public and private smart contract enabled blockchain that exists or will ever exist - Had 0 users of smart contracts Then chainlink would be useless Chainlink is a key ingredient in this adoption of SC’s, and therefore is reliant on it happening to ultimately grow

Your point is well taken but that's like saying what if boxes didn't exist, would that make the postal service useless. Smart contracts are still a nascent technology but we're not talking speculative use case. Meaning legacy players are working towards adopting smart contracts etc

Yes absolutely agree Just wanted to answer that guys question directly For all intents and purposes that theoretical scenario is largely impossible

Thanks. My broader concern around asking that question is just to widen my understanding of the 3.0 ecosystem. As we move towards a blockchain world, what other use cases are we foreseeing beyond smart contracts? And since CL is a framework for oracles, then it essentially becomes the data feed of the 3.0 world. But again, SC cannot be the only use case for CL in the 3.0 world now can it?

Frankly everything that is relevant regarding blockchains is accomplished via smart contracts.

Interesting. In that case any data that must be brought on chain from the off chain world would need to be useful for smart contracts. Unlike what I thought before, it's not that you'd simply have retrievable info on 3.0, as let's say one does a search today on Google
