I think the first thoughts may have been we need to do this wih governance votes by the book and hoped it might regain the peg enough to be able to ride out the week but then realized serious damaged could be done by that stage

I had previously suggested adding a safety parameter that automatically disables minting with UST as soon as UST falls below $0.95 I can see one problem that might have occured if minting was disabled after a depeg would be that if the team forced liquidations of the UST like they did and UST was values at $0.40 and USDX $1.00 then at auction you would only recover perhaps 30% of the USDX minted whreas when USDX and UST are matched then the auction price is likely to return a much better percentage For example if we had a much larger amount of UST, say 20m UST at $0.40, then if USDX was $1.00 a bidder would perhaps only bid 0.35 USDX per UST generating just 7m USDX leacing a 13m shortfall So for the auctions it was important that UST and USDX remained closely matched and not a massive difference to maximise returns
