Sorry if this is a basic question, just building some

knowledge about staking.
I’m looking to stake my Kava on Kepler. How to choose a validator and are there any criteria you look for to avoid slashing?

A good voting record is also a good sign (also visible on mintscan) If you choose a validator in the bottom 10 they can easily drop out of the top 100 validator set, so safer to avoid these

I usually check for uptime/participation rate. You can check it on mintscan.io It gives the best indication of how well looked after the node is, I also look for validators with higher self bonded rates as in theory they are less likely to be involved in slashing events.
