node hosting? I've been following Holo for a long while and waited in anticipation of the Holoport but I now know that a software install will be made available, likely for Linux OS.
Does anyone have information I can read on such as HOLO requirement. Is it staking or delegating etc. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.
There are no specified requirements yet for running Holo Host software on your own machine. If you look at the HoloPort hardware specs you can get an idea of what a good minimum configuration would be. There is no specific promise when HoloPort software will become available to run on your own hardware. All we know is sometime after beta testing starts. And I promise you that the team is going to be focused on dealing with beta test issues on HoloPorts for a while before they want to deal with supporting other hardware configuration. Anything you hear from anyone other than an official Holo or Holochain announcement, including myself, is pure speculation. HoloPort OS (HPOS) is a customized version of NixOS. NixOS is a specialize version of Linux build around the Nix package manager. There is no staking or delegating because Holochain is not a blockchain. HoloPorts are application servers. You earn HoloFuel by providing hosting services. You can look through the FAQ for articles that can address your Holo[chain] questions, but there is nothing there about hosting on your own hardware. It's just too soon.
Thank you! I think running holochain apps on smart phone might be a big step. Like i mentioned: to be honest we mostly get through our daily life with a smart phone. Dont know when i was infront of a PC last time? Weeks ago maybe. ..."thats a way down the road" Doesnt matter. Been here since idex back in the days😀. Patience is key imho. With this kind of project.
Thank you, makes sense. Just thought it may be possible to have holo running on smartphones as well (in 5 to 10 years from now, maybe?). Smartphones are more powerfull every year. I dont know what happened to the holoport mini? Is the specification not nearly the same as smartphones today? And connectivity shouldnt be a problem at all, while smartphone onscreen time is getting exorbitant higher worldwide.
Imagine a p2p end to end encrypted WhatsApp like app running on holochain. The only downside would be that if some bad guy send some bad texts in there you can’t realistically read those. As long as he deletes his app the chats are gone.
Honestly Why would you want to run Holo on a smartphone? A smartphone that’s running Holo can’t be used like a normal smartphone would be And in today’s time a smart phone would cost you the same as a subpar desktop computer especially if you just buy a used one and with holo’s spec requirements a used one is not bad in any way I think? And a desktop computer would be better at running Holo Even financially it would make sense to Run Holo on a computer
