I believe there has been at least 1 double spend

attack on digibyte in its history (correct me if I'm wrong). When there is a double spend attack on a network are new coins introduced into circulation aka more than 21b will be in circulation after the last block is mined?

Yes there has and no new coins are created. There was a flaw in 6.16.3 if memmory serves that allowed some sha256 miners to produce 20 blocks in a row in secret and overwrite the over 100 blocks in original chain. In those blocks the hackers stole funds from at least 1 exchange. However when they published there chain any coins made during that time ceased to exist so it does not create extra supply.
