now, for the next AMA:
Hypothetically, how would/can a deflationary environment work for Casper and is that theoretically even possible? How is Eth planning to accomplish that…is it sustainable?
There needs to be inflation for paying the validators for running the node. This really is moot if you are holding CSPR and stake as any inflation movement in CSPR value would be compensated by your increase in CSPR supply. The rate of 8% can easily be changed by the community if 67% of the stake agrees. It is important that this includes MOSTLY DELEGATORS in stake. With the upcoming redelegate functionality, it can be easier to vote with your CSPR if you chose to move validators. This gives everyone a vote in if an upgrade should or should not go forward. One possible route of deflation that could be used is just burning of any gas fees. However, most people that ask about deflation don't really understand why it is needed and that it is supporting the utility token network.
Thanks Joe, yes I understand that and the re delegate functionality would be nice. Of course the validators and delegators need to be compensated. For Eth to become deflationary, are they simply burning part of the gas fees or is there more? And hypothetically would that be an option for Casper if the community wanted? Are there other ways for a project to become deflationary…just making sure I am not missing something.
