The LINK token is an ERC677 utility token used to pay Chainlink node operators for their oracle services, used as collateral to secure certain jobs and by the community as a mechanism to raise alerts if a node's performance is subpar for any reason. This same logic applies to any Chainlink oracle service.

The questjon is not if they need to use a link token but if node ops do, otherwise they will just convert them back again. The amount of staked tokens is gatekept and limited to 22.5M currently. All other tokens used in velocity for payments to service dont have much effect if their is no need to hold the token by the receiving party of this payment. Very tiring for community members to spread disinformation, payments does not equal demand. You can analyze urself when the need for a token goes up, likely when more collateral and more competition between nodes is needed/starts. (If ever).
