my end.
1. We've said the entire time these are just estimates, and the frustration shown here is why we are hesitant to ever put them out. But we understand people don't just want to hear "we're working on it" so we do our best to guess when we'll have something ready for public use.
2. Why might these estimates change? Well the first ones were like 1 year, which anything on that timeline is bound to be inaccurate. The rest is a combination of a) we've come across new ideas that we felt were important enough to add even though it takes longer and b) we discovered new things/issues that we didn't know about and had to fix.
Examples of a) - working with Polygon to launch on a custom zkEVM for IDEX. Takes longer than deploying on, say, Arbitrum, but allows us to offer gas free trading (i.e. it's so cheap it's absorbed into the trade fees) vs $0.60-1 per trade settlement (and each trade has many settlements). Others include seamless deposits from multiple chains using Stargate, our market making incentive program, etc.
Examples of b) - just last this week we discovered an extreme edge case where if a user has i) multiple short positions open ii) these positions are on markets with different maintenance margin fractions and iii) price changes by ~10x in a single index price update resuling in liquidation that the liquidation couldn't be properly handled by our contracts. This is an extreme edge case, and unlikely to occur, but if it does we can't have things break. Something like this only comes up late in the testing process, when everything works well but you're trying crazy stuff to break it.
As for sharing stuff, we've found that in order to share something that excites people, you want to have a level of polish/production value that really isn't possible until the product is 100% ready (or for example with an exchange, you need to do things like backfill the data so that the chart looks pretty/normal, etc.). We've got a few marketing videos we're working on for launch, but have chosen not to spend extra time on marketing images at the moment as it will slow us down in the push towards launch.
That said, I'm planning to do a public demo of our testnet as soon as we're deployed and stable on the latest version of XCHAIN (launched a few days ago and settling to Goerli testnet), probably after we have Stargate up so you can see that interaction as well. In the meantime here is a clunky screenshot of our staging instance so you can see the messiness behind the scenes.
Well, Ofcourse I believed all investors wanna hear that you're working on it and being carried along ... In short, with the look of development status, seems nothing is coming up this month again right, if yes ... Is there any time speculation ...
Thanks @alexwearn for the detailed response, we know it's not easy to estimate a release date in a software development especially in crypto where everything is experimental. I think what we want here is transparency, when there will be delays for example, it's better to communicate it instead of waiting until the day of the supposed release to say there will be a delay. I think XCHAIN will be a great product because there are no real app specific perpDex yet on the market. XCHAIN might be the pioneer here so we can't all wait to see what you guys have been cooking for a year.
Totally hear you, I think in each case we’ve tried to let people know at least a few weeks if not a month ahead when things don’t look like they will hit. Late October still looks realistic and we’ll keep everyone posted over the next few weeks.
check this chart, when ETH reaches the bottom yellow line, we should see altcoins getting to the bottom. We lost the 0.61 of fibo, but we are soooo close,
