there are countries with super low electricity/internet cost compared to other countries. How can this still work out balanced and fair?
In the case of mining (crypto), electricity costs are important because your setup has a high power consumption. In the case of Holo hosting, currently your Holoport will have a normal power consumption (as a normal pc) and eventually hosting will be available on all pc's.
Good point. Having a good reputation as a host will pay in the long run. Quicker Internet Speeds / Online Reliability (uptime) / storage capacity availability / long term hosting contracts at set prices / free hosting ... premium quality can ask for premium prices.
Fair is not the right term, as it is demand/supply based and economic forces play a role. If one can offer cheap hosting, they will. The question is only if cheap electric areas will supply most or if demand for certain areas is higher due to connectivity and so on. Might be you cannot compete with other hosts when it comes to pricing, but you can compete by quality.
As I see it this is an excellent analysis of the issue. Supply and demand based on everyone's needs (Host or publisher). Each hApp has its own performance needs. So the publisher chooses Host according to his needs. If my hApp doesn't need a lot of performance I buy the lowest price (which still guarantees what I'm looking for and what I want) and I'm fine with it. If I have top needs (better and bigger parameters) I will pay a higher price. From my point of view this is exactly in line with the vision of the project.
On the other hand it is exactly as it happens now with any centralized provider. Do I want to publish an application? Do I need X? I have to pay X. Do I need Y? I have to pay Y. 😃
