One. That is the optimal number
more are of course preferable but this would split the already limited liquidity
Some in reserve are good. But still it is easy to spin up another
They will go for the maintainer and make an example out of him. I relly hope he is hidden well and out of reach.
not necessarily. the coordination server provides a "free service" at best , so its not a business, so it cant be a money transmitting business, so what laws would it be breaking?
do you think operating p2p randezvous, bootstrap nodes or (circuit) relay servers is safe?
They don't need a good reason imo. As Phoenix is also targeted for example.
its all relative. always some degree of risk in all activities. obviously, we should try to stay within what the laws allow. afaik its not illegal to run, say, a monero node or whatever
unaccountable government agents dont always "need" good reasons, but they seem to like to have solid cases regardless
Usually, yes, maybe there is something about these cases we don't know yet. I mean it was always tricky to even figure out what BTC service is custodial an which is not.
did you read the actual samurai case? they did pretty much everything wrong - collected fees - made a business out of it - ran their own infrastructure - openly made statements welcoming illicit markets and sanctioned entities
Yes I agree. I'm more inertested in the Phoenix case. Are they sued too or are they moving out preemtivly? From my perspective they should be good.
no idea, maybe you can find something on reddit why they are leaving, probably they are spooked
is that why they call you the shadow of hamburger? 🤣
read the actual indictment on the DOJ site if youre so inclined. the worst was something like "welcome Russian oligarchs!" right after russia was sanctioned
yeah, they gave the feds material to work with they always need SOME casus belli at least, so the lawyers don't destroy them outright
Do we know that phoenix is targeted - or could it be that just the recent goings on are sufficient to frighten them into gtfo of US regulatory risk?
Afaik they are doing it preemptively
Thanks, yes, I posted that before seeing the discussion that followed!
