sell them in the future or will there be a guide made available so users can install it themselves on their (spare) machine
Holo has said they are a software company and won't be selling more holoports. Arthur Brock said in ama 56 that third parties will sell holoports in the future.
Why anyone want to buy holoport if what i understand it will be possible to install it on own hardware?
The main reason would be to help to build up the project. And after all there was said, that the investment should get back with earnings from hosting. It probably won't be possible to get the software for your own hardware before the holoport owners got their rewards for helping.
Hmm i thought i red somewhere that with launch it will be available for everybody and if they want to build big network thats only way i think to allow everybody to be "hoster"
Software for your PC will be available at a later time 🚀
Every pc's has different configurations. Lot of support will be needed for the hosting software.
Should not be in issue because its just an application running on a Linux OS
Does everyone need to wipe their pc to install Linux and hosting application? Many people have windows pc's.
In fact it won't be a problem. At the right time (after a while) the software will be available for all OS. Not just Linux. But, as I'm sure you can tell yourself, HoloPorts will be the initial backbone of the HOLO Hosting Network. HoloPort is a dedicated hosting device with the necessary specifications for the purpose. Even a possible third-party solution is designed specifically for hosting (I don't know if it will still be called HoloPort but that's another matter 😃). Initially hosting will be provided through a completely known and identical "Host environment" and therefore with the same functional specifications. The software for all normal PCs (even the "older" ones, all different around the world) will come later.
same is right now with servers, 99% are on linux this is not problem. According to hardware most of programs (for sure those written in Rust like holochain) can be compiled for any cpu in most cases without changing even line of code. So if something is working right now on Intel/x86 (like holoports) will work on AMD or even ARM like RasberryPI maybe just recompilation would be needed for this last
i hope holoport will be opensourced ASAP it be fully functional, because in my opinion is the easiest way to make holo network grow fast. Acording to my review from around 2 years ago i remember there was somehere info it will be opened for everybody with lunch but maybe something changed from that time
