Would you rather a company just run a script and

register all the good names automatically, then sell them for a huge premium, or simply decide who gets one? Because that is what happens without such a system in place

First of all, you need to understand that the dependence of the result on the masternode vote for the ability to use the name is not the freedom that a decentralized network should provide. Imagine you want to get a name, but the masternodes can refuse to register it for you simply because they want to. At the same time, they can give the same name to another user in another vote. This is a failed idea from the start. The right idea is when a decentralized network guarantees the registration of any name and no one can refuse to register your name or take your name away later, as often happens in centralized systems. How to ensure a fair distribution of names so that one user does not register thousands of names at once for resale (name squatting)? A good solution to this problem could have been found if DCG asked the Dash community how to do this before they started doing it. I can offer several different ideas that can be combined to achieve the optimal result: Idea 1: Registering a name with a mandatory deposit in dash that must be held for a certain period of time: For example: To register a name longer than 15 characters, you need to have 1 dash on your wallet address and wait for 1 dash network block. To register a name from 10 to 15 characters, you need to have 2 dash and wait for 2 blocks. To register a name from 9 characters, you need to have 3 dash within 3 blocks. To register a name from 5 characters, you need to have 5000 dash on your balance for 1 month. To register a name from 4 characters, you need to have 10000 dash on your balance for 3 months. In such a system, to register two names of 5 characters, you will need to have: 5000 dash + 2 months or 10000 dash + 1 month. Pros of the system: 1. protection from mass registration 2. those who have serious resources and serious intentions will be able to claim a short name 3. Dash network receives the purchase of coins and holders. Idea 2: Sale of the name through an auction: whoever pays more gets the name. These are transparent, fair and understandable rules of the game. Everyone makes a bet and increases as needed. Idea 3: Gradual sale of names: after 2024 we sell names of 15 characters long after 2025 we sell names of 10 characters long after 2026 we sell names of 9 characters long Idea 4: The name requires a monthly payment. If you do not pay for the renewal of the name registration, the name is released and automatically put up for sale at a decentralized auction. Having to pay for a name monthly ensures that it is not cost-effective to grab a large number of names at once and then forget about them forever or lose the keys. Idea 5: The shorter the name, the more expensive its monthly cost should be. For example: a 15-character name will cost 0.001 dash per month. a 10-character name will cost 0.01 dash/month. a 7-character name will cost 5 dash/month. a 5-character name will cost 10 dash/month. This will allow the Dash platform network to receive constant additional passive income from short names. Let the network earn money on this. The technical debt of the network grows over time and we need to find something to compensate for it. We can use all ideas 1-5 simultaneously or combine them to achieve the best result. The main thing is to have the desire to do everything right.

Give me a name of an important person or institution you trust. I'll buy the name for 3 Dash. I would even pay 30 or more. Then I start scamming people with that username. Just look at current scams out here on telegram or x regarding fake profiles.

What is the difference between a crypto system and a centralized system? In a centralized system, you need to get permission for every action/transaction. The difference between a crypto system and a centralized system is that in a crypto system, any transaction/action is possible without having to ask permission. What kind of system do we want to create? An analogue of ICANN that decides who can have what domain name or a free system where any user can register ANY name?

It is a good question. What do we want? Can I add another?! What don't we want? And I personally don't want a system where scammers run havoc, and relieve thousands of their hard earned money in the name of Dash. Only special usernames will be contested usernames where no centralized entity like ICANN makes a decision but members of the community like you and me, which is how I see it, far more decentralized.

If the Dash organization chooses a system where they retain the right to decide who is allowed to use the name and who is not allowed to use the name, then this will ultimately lead to Dash having to follow all the laws of state governments.

Why? I give a shit about governments. I personally will vote with my concious in mind. No to scammers, even to scammer governments. If elon musk can prove its him who wants his name as username fine. Everybody else f*** off. Get yourself one that is not contested. (Reminder: I only speak for myself as a tiny wheel in the Dash-DAO)
