The "import account" button will be greyed out until you check the checkboxes next to the account names you want to import. When you entered your key, did the accounts appear?

This could be related to your connection issue. If it can't connect, it won't be able to find accounts.
If you open that URL in your browser, do you get an error or a bunch of JSON (code looking text)? It sounds like something either on your computer or network is blocking you 🤔

Yeah something's blocking you it seems (it's not us). You can try a different API like @Infinityblocio mentioned, which you can do via the "Manage Blockchains" area found in the blockchain dropdown (upper left). Just click the gear on Telos and edit the "Default Node" URL. You can try using https://mainnet.telos.net (which you could also test in your browser in advance).
