Just wait if only couple of weeks away. Staking on MM is fine as long as you are sensible and use a safe device and keep your recovery seed words safe. Staking on hardware wallet is better because your seed words never touch the internet.

It's safe as long as you feel comfortable on the machine you are on with your security behavour. The stake is tied to that wallet ID you are using. If you ar staking for a long time you are still tied to that ID during that time. I would wait and stake when you get a proper wallet and set it up.

Not really as your seed words (private key) are stored in the browser's 'secure' store. But, you can import your 12 work Metamask seed into a Trezor (both are BIP39 compliant) and then either uninstall and reinstall your browser or better still format your HD and reinstall your OS to make sure the seed words are properly gone. Don't know how it works on a Trezor but probably the same as a Ledger. When you first fire it up it will ask you if you want to create a new wallet or import an existing one. Select import and enter your 12 word MM seed words. You have now moved all your liquid and staked Hex to the Trezor (which you can then add to a new MM as a hardware wallet) probably best to bite the bullet and reinstall your OS though, just to be sure the browser seed words are gone.

If you stake without a wallet you'll need to have 2 Trezors. That's a question for the hexsecurity group.

From what I understand the coins you stake are burnt. Then re-minted when the stake ends. When your stake ends and you claim, you’ll see it in your metamask and that is when you’d want to transfer to hardware wallet.
