I see two main limitations: (1) if you run smart contracts

on your own node you have a single point of failure (if your node goes offline - nobody can interact with you anymore)
(2) there is no atomic composability between all these participants.

Like they say it is more an application framework like than a unified platform (I didn't make this up, this is what they said in their documentation).

It works for usecases where you really own something like token / token transfers (but then already problems come up - can you send tokens to someone who isn't online - didn't check this just as an example).
Also seems that each application / dapp is quite isolated and not able to directy interact with other applications which makes it kinda pointless for DeFi?

Not saying it is bad tech (this isn't my point), it is just different and a bit orthogonal to common DLTs.

You could build defi stuff within Holochain. It just doesn’t match the current assumptions that people have about what that looks like.
