looks like it ll solve their fees problem and tx speed. (Let's presume it will) then what will be the advantage of Telos compared to the big Mama of all the blockchains? Would Telos still have a competitive advantage?

I hope you re right! But it seems on paper Eth will be able to transact thousands of tx per sec for a very low fee. + Be very eco friendly which is one of TELOS current best advantage

The merge is only affecting consensus, not upgrades related to reducing fees or scalability or improving speed
