Can someone explain me why Nervos opted for implementing L2

Different uses, sidechains for example are good for games because they have a lot of TPS, but they do not have much security since it is not anchored to Nervos' L1 as it would be for example Godwoken an Optimistic Rollup. Optimistic Rollups have a lot of security as they are anchored to the L1 of Nervos and scale, but they don't scale as much as a sidechain. An Optimistic Rollup is good for businesses that need more security and not scale as much as some DeFI applications. Not all applications or businesses require the same features, each layer 2 solution tries to solve the needs of each one of them.

Daruma, StableKoi or Kamiverse are deployed on Godwoken v0 right now for example. There are more applications in the pipeline but they are waiting for the new version of Godwoken (v1), much more compatible with Ethereum (it is much easier to implement an app), it is more integrated with Metamask and it is more user friendly for users.

Nervos is creating various layer 2 solutions, (Sidechains, Optimistic Rollups, payment channels, zks, etc). Nervos' intention is to create them all. Until the second Hardfork takes place, it will not be possible to implement the zk (More here: https://www.nervos.org/blog/nervos-network-2022-roadmap) But Optimistic Rollups are very important (as much as zk), in fact on Ethereum Optimism has recently received tens of millions of dollars of funding. And Optimism or Arbitrium are in beta, like Godwoken. Each layer 2 solution has different uses, they complement each other, it is not that one is more important than another, they are all important.
