it no longer validates those signatures with the transactions, meaning that the witness signature is set aside from the ordinary validation process and removed from the chain of signatures themselves, breaking the chain of signatures, right??? *ducks*
I don’t think this is true. Legacy nodes asume the transactions are anyone can spend and don’t need validated, but segwit nodes must still be validating the signatures or the funds would be spent by anyone.
