Ok, excuse my ignorance, but why should it be down?
...because the mod team didn't participate in the protest?
Well.. Maybe we should not agree with the changes reddit is forcing on their app developers. Hence the protest what is currently happening. The more subreddits participating with this protest the higher the impact. And extend the period of the strike until reddit changed their api pricing. Well or we just all leave reddit.
I kinda already slowly left. Reddit has been going downhill for a while. I used to visit daily and comment a lot. Nowadays I visit once a week or when someone posts a link and rarely comment. It's not the same any more.
tbh this protest is the thing that's probably gonna drive me away from reddit for good. a lot of googling I did yesterday brought me to subs that were protesting, and in those moments I really didn't care about the protest (although I agree with it in principle), I just needed the info that was behind that link. so really this is just illustrating the need for better forums.
You know the saying right? The platform is as good as the contents. You, me and everybody else who help posting and commenting on reddit make it a valuable place. If we just move to a better decentralized alternative. That would be ideal.
decentralized typically means fragmentation. What was it called, the twitter alternative you like. I completely breaks the benefit of content by sharding it over loads of servers.
I removed my reddit account. I go to kbin.
Already? Boy, you're sure quick to make life-changing desicions. You realize you can have an account you don't use a lot [just in case] and you can use multiple sites, right?
You can also create new accounts
There is a problem with new accounts... they don't have any karma. Which means insta-ban from a lot of subreddits.
Fk karma. It's just another credit system.
That enables basic participation
