So something I'm confused about with Ergo, is what are

the known limits to how much the protocol can be developed? Like with Bitcoin we know demurrage can be implemented. But are there other projects that Ergo can look at that are technologically superior?

not sure what you are asking

[@dΣathgripson] With Bitcoin Demurrage can only be done through some opt in scripting, still possible however Ergo is the only chain to have implemented this as an inherent feature.

I'm not a Developer so I don't feel up to answering this question. I do like Algorand and Cardano and invest into those long term but I don't know of any cryptocurrency that I think is superior to Ergo

It’s not really limited by much. Tries to avoid HFs but if there is a huge demand for one it can’t really be stopped. But with soft-forks, velvet forks, and complexity being mostly done on the application layer - you can make pretty broad changes without a HF. Don’t think there’s any projects that are technically superior. Maybe if you consider new more exotic consensus mechanisms are more suited you could make that argument; but we’re PoW for good reason.

Bitcoin can indeed implement Demurrage, but with serious trade-offs. They are considereing the soft fork version, the hard fork version would be equivalent to ERGOs but it's also the least likely to get implemented there. It all basically boild down to three choices.
