Just reading the abstract it looks like they serve very different purposes. Could you explain the context you're talking about?

Well I am reading that BitVM could implement turning complete on BTC probably to bring EVM like smart contracts so I would like to know how similar or superior CashTokens could be against BitVM in terms of usability and functionality.

What you'd really be comparing it to in that case is (I imagine) the whole BCH virtual machine. Really, the CashTokens upgrade was just the last piece of the Defi puzzle for BCH, and things like Transaction Introspection were pivotal to what CashTokens finally made possible. From the abstract: _______ Rather than executing computations on Bitcoin, they are merely verified, similarly to optimistic rollups. A prover makes a claim that a given function evaluates for some particular inputs to some specific output. If that claim is false, then the verifier can perform a succinct fraud proof and punish the prover. _______ It sounds like a rather round-a-bout solution, and it needing provers/verifiers has got to introduce latency since there's probably a window for the verifier to verify. Cashtokens/BCH Smart contracts are all atomic: they either succeed or fail based on the inputs and outputs, there's no process of needing to see if someone attempted to defraud you. That's one at least.

Makes sense but I need more because I am writing my farewell letter to Sovryn and I came balls deep into CashTokens

The Bitcoin VM is not turing complete by design. CashTokens are a set of operations validated by miners and can utilize simple logic (tokens/data) to determine valid pathways to transfer representations of value. If something is really powerful, the common attack from the establishment is to make a broken copy with a similar name as a stand in. The bitcoin community keeps getting push off its brand, ideas, vocabulary and strengths in this manner.

BitVM is only a theoretical concept, no actual applications use it. It's a very round about solution, a way to shoehorn advanced functionality into Bitcoin by using advanced cryptography
