Yes, if you rent out or share your land with your neighbors, the progress on your plot will be reset. Also, please note that in the current Alpha Season, you can only rent out or share your plot with one person.

I think it would be cool if you could have the way your land it oriented be saved to your wallet so if you rented anyone's plot anywhere the only things that would change are the distribution of resources based on rarity so you could rent anyones land anywhere for the best price and be able to hop back in where you left off
