Dumb question maybe, but if we get UTXO commitments why

do we even need the old chain? Do they not include all the information and proof? Nobody has a calendar of when the week originally started no? We just all know it its monday because we always kept track and are confident monday is actually monday.

because a commitment-proof requires one to have and process the entire UTXO database. Which excludes thin clients from being used.
