the POW when scanning for value, the hash begins with a number of zeroes. Is that innaccurate description of bitcoin?
AB: Yes
Orr: [laughing] I suggest to you that you're wrong. You're seeking escape from the fact that the POW in the bitcoin white paper is similar to the Aura paper.
AB: If you look at it from that point, The bitcoin paper expresses it that way, but the code shows a floating point number. This is why Satoshi says he used a system like Hashcash. It's something I considered, but this is an obvious optimization. The Aura paper and Hashcash both use leading zeroes, but bitcoin is doing something more fine grained with the adjustment so it's not gyrating on the network.
OK the source I got that from was wrong. Thanks for correcting me.
The tech you describe is accurate. Don't agree that that means the white paper is wrong, or it's lesser sibling "inaccurate". The white paper skips over oodles of details that you'd write in a specification. That just shows the wp is aimed at just painting the right mental picture. Sticking to the major outlines. The wp after all these years is still a great way to learn Bitcoin in 8 pages. Personally the only part I would say is gospel is the title. Every word there is important.
